Vincer's Journal: Gurk Attack

It began as a simple training exercise for myself and my trusted pet Amber, a plains tusk cat who is coming into her own as an able bodied companion in the most heated of battles. Upon returning home to Oracle Base, I was curious at the tracks I had found in the rocky sand.

Amber immediately became restless and irritated. I have been around animals enough to know when something isn't right.

And that's when the hot winds of Lok shifted and brought to my nose the familiar and choking stench of Gurks. They had made a makeshift rally point just beyond the base; no less then 30 of them on a quick count. And they were primed for a war party.

With no time to even call for backup, Amber and I dove into battle, feeling that surprise would be our only tactic.

They sent wave after wave, and the body count was piling up. At one point, they overwhelmed me, and only Amber kept them from finishing me off for good. Their whelps were particularly fierce, leaping onto my cats back and rending at her with their flat but sharp nails. My new E-11 was tested.

I lost count after the initial few, but there may have been close to 100 that rallied around their makeshift nest that afternoon. They had no intention on finishing what they started. As I've suspected before, Gurks are smarter then they appear.

I wonder now. Am I still the hunter or have I become the hunted?

Happy Life Day!

It is that time of year again to celebrate Life Day. Despite the Empire's best efforts at containing this traditional Wookiee holiday, citizens of the galaxy - including those at Oracle Base - managed to gear up and head out to spread the holiday cheer.

Vincer and Cyra pose before one of the many Life Day trees that have been decorated for the children. With Imperials about, Vincer takes nothing for granted and keeps his rifle ready. Life Day is a time for all life, including Sox and Amber.

Garova hangs his Holiday Poster in his office, which usually houses many Wookiee keepsakes. Garova is a deeply sentimental Wookiee and knows full well the joy of having a family, both actual and extended.

Not everyone loves Life Day, it would seem. The grumpy Loh'khar helped his servant Cor'qi decorate for Life Day, but only because he was promised gifts afterwards. Cor'qi did not disappoint; Loh'khar loved his Holo Entertainment Table. Cor'qi was delighted to not receive the lump of coal that Loh'khar threatened her with all year.

Garova poses with Murdok in front of a Life Day Tree that he decorated. The children of Doaba Guerfel were overcome with joy to meet Garova and his young pet. Though most of the children couldn't understand Garova's Wookiee-speak, they still listened with great interest as he told the traditional tales before handing out gifts.

No celebration is complete without fireworks. Before the squad from Oracle Base stole away to return to their hidden headquarters, they launched fireworks into the snow-filled sky.

Life Day was another tremendous success, and not even the opressive Empire could ruin the festitivies. Happy Life Day!

Attack on Oracle Base

A small squad of Geonosians descended upon Oracle Base, perhaps attempting to capture or kill our scientist Cyra Sedaris. The foul creatures managed to infiltrate all the way to the central stretch before engaging the skilled doctor. Sedaris proved to be a difficult capture, slinging her pistol with deadly accuracy and felling her foes.

I arrived too late, but it appeared I wasn't needed as I found Cyra standing over the fallen beasts, even rummaging through the pack of one and pulling out what appeared to be some sort of lucky talisman.

I requisitioned a nearby Rebel ship to drop some troops down and fortify the perimeter. Though the Geonosians made no further attempts that night, I don't believe they are finished.
